Watch: NJ Family Rescued with Aerial Ladder

April 6, 2022
The Millville Fire Department used an aerial ladder to rescue a family trapped by fire in their apartment.

Video shot earlier this week shows Millville firefighters rescuing a family trapped during an apartment fire with an aerial ladder.

The cell phone video, recorded by a neighbor, shows two firefighters bring a family of four to safety on Monday morning when an apartment building caught fire just after midnight, 6ABC Philadelphia reported.

Fire officials said the family was trapped by fire in the hallway and the only escape route was through the windows as heavy fire and smoke blocked their egress from the hallway.

Firefighter Kevin Hall told 6ABC, "I was very anxious," said firefighter Kevin Hall. "But I also reverted back to my training and told myself, 'Keep yourself calm.’”

"It makes me feel very proud and happy to have assisted them in making sure their lives were spared and that the outcome was positive,” Hall said.

Fire officials said the family obtained critical time by keeping their doors closed to help slow the spread of the fire.
